On the Friday following DPF 96, the Soudan Underground Physics Laboratory will be open for tours by conference participants. The laboratory is located at the bottom of the mine comprising Soudan Underground Mine State Park, in northern Minnesota. The tour will consist of two segments: a 45-minute tour of the mine itself, including a tram ride to the last site of iron mining activity (guided by Minnesota State Park staff) and a 1-hour-plus visit to the physics laboratory (guided by Soudan 2 experimenters).
The Soudan mine is located approximately 230 miles north of the Twin Cities. The conference organizers have arranged for buses from the conference hotels. These will leave at intervals, since the facilities for both the State Park and laboratory tours can accomodate only a finite number of people at one time. If you plan to provide your own transportation to/from the mine, please sign up anyway, and adhere to the following schedule. Maps will be available at registration.
