MINOS Computing Information
Summary of MINOS (and NOνA) Computers at Minnesota
Most machines have data areas which are accessible from all machines
as /data/[machine] (e.g.
/data/mnhep19), except that minos-server's data area is
/data/minos. Hostnames end with ".spa.umn.edu". Locations are in Tate.

Most columns are set by hand and were up-to-date on 2009 07 15. The last two are automatically updated nightly. A few bear some explanation:
- CPUs: Number of nodes that condor considers a machine to have. It doesn't differentiate between, e.g., 2 processors with 4 cores each and 4 processors with 2 cores each; these are both "8 CPUs".
- UPS: Whether the computer is on an uninterruptible power supply, i.e. a battery backup.
- Hardware Architecture: a statement about the physical processor(s).
- Software Architecture: a statement about how Linux is running. From the user perspective, this is all that matters.

Other Departmental Computers
These computers are not owned by MINOS (or even NOνA). They
belong to the condor group '"mnhep"' (the name includes the quotes!) and
are owned by someone in the high energy group. They can be used, at
least sometimes, for MINOS work. You should consider running your condor
jobs with nice_user if you run here, but it is not
required. This list may be out of date. Check
'condor_status'. Yes, not all computers named "mnhep" are
in this group.

These computers are owned by the Cleo and/or Bes III groups. They
constitute the condor group '"cleofarm"', and can be used sometimes, with
explicit permission from the Cleo/Bes III group, for MINOS
work. This list may be out of date. Check
'condor_status'.

These are various desktops around the department and belong to the
condorgroup '"physlin"'. They can also be used for MINOS work. You
should consider running your condor jobs with nice_user if
you run here, but it is not required. This list may be out of date.
Check 'condor_status'.
physlin computers are configured by default (2009 06 24) to never run condor jobs on their first processor
unless they have only one. This can be overridden by the condor user by setting the condor variable "HappyToBeEvicted" to
"True".
