My friends, I'm sad to report that Dave Ray died on Thanksgiving Day, 2002. On December 13th, around the time of KRG's annual "reunion," hundreds of fellow musicians and friends gathered to remember the man and his music at First Ave. Koerner read a list of sympathy messages and Dave's wife, MJ talked frankly about his struggle with lung cancer. The evening was capped off with a moving performance by Koerner and Glover, with an empty chair for Dave.

Since Dave's passing, I've received a number of e-mails from fans expressing their sadness, and I have posted some of them here in tribute. The outpouring of feeling from fans is truly remarkable. Dave used to play live almost every week, sometimes many nights a week, and over the years he made a lot of fans and friends.

I have many fond memories of Dave. He had a wonderful sense of humor, was a good listener and I am grateful that I had a chance to meet him and spend time with him.
